OK, so the Edmonton Oilers lost to the Nashville Predators on Monday night, but local rockers Tupelo Honey still celebrated a win of sorts. Their song, Can’t Stop, which won The Journal‘s puck-rock contest, was played during the first period of the game — complete with a video montage of Oilers footage. Fourteen seconds later, good ol’ No. 14 — Jordan Eberle — scored to put the Oilers up 1-0.
All five members were then interviewed by Oilers host Tom Gazzola during the first intermission of the game:
My thanks to the Oilers — particularly game-day director Ben Broder and DJ Dragan Jargic — for playing Tupelo’s song. And thanks to Tupelo Honey and their puck-rock competitors, The Flash Jam and Mikey Maybe/Mitchmatic, for writing kick-ass songs.
